ABOUT ME
The 2020-2021 school year at Steeleville High School marks my tenth year in the district, and it will be my seventeenth year of teaching overall. This year I am also embarking on a new journey by taking classes for my doctoral degree at Murray State University!
I actually started my post-secondary studies at Murray State, and after receiving a Bachelor's degree in English at MSU, I officially began my career in education as a graduate assistant teaching sections of English 101 and 102 at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale while obtaining my Master's degree in Rhetoric and Composition.
Following my graduate studies, I taught Composition 1, Composition 2, Introduction to Literature, and remedial English classes as a part time instructor at Rend Lake College and Kaskaskia College. During this time, I also worked as a substitute teacher. After substitute teaching in many local districts, I decided that I wanted to teach high school. I returned to graduate school (this time at McKendree University) and received my Master's in Education along with a teaching certificate for English/Language Arts grades 6-12 and a middle school endorsement.
I was then hired by Waterloo High School as an English teacher. There I taught English III and English IV. After one year at WHS, I sadly left in order to cut down on my commute to work. I then began my career at SHS as a part time Spanish teacher and part time special education aide. I then was hired as a full time English teacher and since then have taught English I, II, III, IV, 101 (SWIC dual credit), 102 (SWIC dual credit), Literature 113, and Foundations of Language.
During this school year I will be teaching English III, English 101, English 102, Creative Writing/Annual, and Literature 113; I also co-sponsor the Class of 2023. I am so happy to call SHS my home. I work with some amazing people and am privileged to teach some amazing students as well. Go Warriors!
