ENGLISH 101-20W
English 101 is a dual credit course offered through Southwest Illinois College. SWIC's Dual Credit program allows high school students 16 years of age and older to earn high school and college credit simultaneously while attending the identified course in their high school classroom. Dual credit high school instructors meet the college's minimum instructor requirements and the course is taught as a college level course. There is NO COST to the student and the high school for this program—a true win/win program.
For this course, we will be studying arguments and their prevalence in the world around us. We will be completing various written arguments throughout the semester. Subtopics include types of arguments, fallacies, appeals/reasoning, style, research, and documentation. Writing tasks will include drafting for various audiences.
Students earning a grade of a "C" or higher will be eligible to proceed to English 102 in the spring, another dual credit course. Each course is worth 3.0 credit hours.
Students will also be able to experience the benefits of being a SWIC student. This includes obtaining a college identification card as well as a Metrolink pass. (IDs can be obtained on SWIC's main campus or at the Red Bud or Granite City campuses.)
