Dual Credit
Literature 113 is a dual credit course offered through Southwest Illinois College. SWIC's Dual Credit program allows high school students 16 years of age and older to earn high school and college credit simultaneously while attending the identified course in their high school classroom. Dual credit high school instructors meet the college's minimum instructor requirements and the course is taught as a college level course. There is NO COST to the student and the high school for this program—a true win/win program.
This course is worth 3.0 credit hours.
Students will also be able to experience the benefits of being a SWIC student. This includes obtaining a college identification card as well as a Metrolink pass. (IDs can be obtained on SWIC's main campus or at the Red Bud or Granite City campuses.)

Course Outline
This class will be made up of reading, speaking, vocabulary, and writing. All works will fall under one or more of the following units, and we will seek to answer a number of holistic questions on our journey toward a more complete understanding of these works.
The course will be roughly divided into thematic units as outlined below:
* Do You See Me? (exploring issues of race in literature)
* Pushing the Limits of Reality (exploring magical realism)
* Defining the Term Normal (exploring what society deems as normalcy and how those boundaries are tested)
* Film and Literature (exploring how works of literature are transformed for the silver screen)
